Why AIDA is close to my heart…

Why AIDA is close to my heart…

Back in 2009, I decided to finally pursue my first love, acting. A good friend of mine asked me if I was interested in doing musicals since I’m able to sing and dance as well. I told her, “In my dreams!” I knew I could really work hard to be a good actress but I’m really just an average singer and dancer. In my mind, it was just impossible. Little did I know that God had a surprise waiting for me 2 years later.

As you probably already know, I moved back here to Manila July 2010. March of this year Viva, the company that manages me, texted about a musical audition, which turned out to be for In The Heights to be produced here in Manila by Atlantis Productions. I said, “if they trust me enough to let me audition, I’m going!” Long story short, I auditioned and got called back for both In The Heights and Aida, and as you’ve already guessed, I booked Aida instead of In The Heights. A few weeks later, Atlantis touched base with me again and I booked Little Mermaid for its run here later this year.

So why is Aida close to my heart? It’s a reminder that my career is still about who God is, and not “what I can offer.” It’s to show that while I can’t do certain things, HE CAN. It’s God telling me, it’s by His grace I’m able to do what I’m passionate about and Aida is truly a gift. From a “dream” in 2009, musical theater is now part of my resume. Because of Aida, Little Mermaid came, and this year, 2011, put “theater actress” next to my name. Added bonus? It’s Disney!

So next time you say you can’t, remember this: GOD CAN, and so much more! “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine, to him be glory… forever and ever…” Ephesians 3:20-21.

PS: It was super awesome singing back up for Ima Castro and Rachel Alejandro! ♥
