Fidel looks at me with a smile on his face as he playfully holds three of his fingers up. I stare at him with confusion, until he finally blurts out, “Three months to go before we get married!” We both briefly laugh, and sigh in joyful anticipation. It has been quite a season for the two of us, that’s filled with invaluable lessons. What we build together at this time will be carried on to our marriage. Here are a few things we’ve learned, so far, that matter not only now, but in every season of our lives.

It matters to know that God is our Source. With Fidel being a campus missionary, and me working freelance, we have learned to rely on God to provide for our needs. He has not only continued to do so, but has been faithful to gift us with our wants as well. We have never, however, experienced the Lord providing for a day this big in our lives, most especially something that we only have a few months to prepare for. Days after our engagement, we sat down to talk about our wedding budget and came up with this conclusion: Our finances need the resurrection power of Jesus Christ! There is absolutely no other option than to trust God with this wedding. This is a provision experience, and a stretching of faith that we have to journey with God, and it’s nothing short of special. God is so personal, and we love that about Him. Since the engagement, God has provided beyond our expectations, and He continues to! We still have a long way to go in terms of things we need to pay for, as we are also preparing for life after the wedding (which is more important, actually). We are in faith that the bigger the challenge, the bigger the breakthrough! As the years go by, there will always be a bigger thing we will have to believe God for anyway. We might as well embrace this training season fully. Like a good friend of mine says, “No faith, no story.” (Hi, Kat 🙂 )

God matters. At the end of the day, this engagement, this relationship, our wedding, none of it is about us. It is God’s love, and grace that has brought us here, and that which will sustain us in the years to come. We take comfort in that, and our prayer is that He will be glorified in this season. We pray that it will be about His presence, beauty, and glory on our wedding day. We pray that our marriage will be a testimony of His love, and grace that brings two sinners together to reveal His majesty. After all, this is really a love story of God in our lives.
